Our Rhythm

We believe that as followers of Jesus Christ, we are to be a people who are devoted to living out the Great Commission; being disciples who make disciples. We believe that the most effective way to take up this calling is by being a part of a small, devoted spiritual family, learning how to love God and to love one another, not only in theory but in practice. For that reason, at The Gathering Church we developed a rhythm of gathering the majority of the time in Home Gatherings and then once a month, out of the overflow of what God is doing in the Home Gatherings, all coming together to worship at our Large Gatherings. Our Home Gatherings are small, simple, Jesus-focused times of worship, reading the Word, and learning how to be devoted to one another. Our Large Gatherings flow out of what God is doing and stirring in our Home Gatherings, and look more like a traditional church service with a fuller time of worship and a sermon.

Why Home Gatherings?

While this approach to “church” looks vastly different compared to the predominant model of church that we see in the west, we believe that this is the best way to pursue being a community of faith devoted to the Great Commission. We believe that the only way that anyone can truly be a disciple is by being devoted to deep and authentic relationships with other believers. In the predominant model of church, the sermon is the primary way in which Biblical truth is taught and applied. As you look at the way people truly learn and grow, it is clear that what is needed is more than a simple passing on of information. Instead, what is most effective is actually allowing people to be immersed in a culture where what is being taught is also being lived out, and where each person is being led to put into practice what they are being taught for themselves.
